Muwatta Imam Malik

The Qibla

كتاب القبلة

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَعْدَ أَنْ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ثُمَّ حُوِّلَتِ الْقِبْلَةُ قَبْلَ بَدْرٍ بِشَهْرَيْنِ ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Said ibnal-Musayyab said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him andgrant him peace, prayed towards the Baytal-Maqdis for sixteen monthsafter arriving in Madina. Then the qibla was moved, two months beforethe battle of Badr. " Translation Not Available

حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ قِبْلَةٌ إِذَا تُوُجِّهَ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Umar ibn al-Khattabsaid, "Any direction that is between east and west can be taken as aqibla if the person praying is face-on to the House." Translation Not Available

حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، وَعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، سَلْمَانَ الأَغَرِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ صَلاَةٌ فِي مَسْجِدِي هَذَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ صَلاَةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ إِلاَّ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Rabah and Ubaydullahibn Abi Abdullah Salman al-Agharr from Abu Hurayra that the Messengerof Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A prayer inthis mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers in any othermosque, except the Masjid al-Haram (in Makka)." وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ خُبَيْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَوْ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ مَا بَيْنَ بَيْتِي وَمِنْبَرِي رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ وَمِنْبَرِي عَلَى حَوْضِي ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik from Khubayb ibn Abd ar-Rahmanfrom Hafs ibn Asim from Abu Hurayra or from Abu Said al-Khudri thatthe Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,"What is between my house and my mimbar is one of the meadows of theGarden, and my mimbar is on my watering-place (al-Hawd)."
