حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا قُطْبَةُ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَاهْ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي جَالِسًا فَقَالَ " صَلاَةُ الْجَالِسِ عَلَى النِّصْفِ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْقَائِمِ " .
It wasnarrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr that the Prophet (PBUH) passedbyhim when he was praying sitting down. He said: “The prayer of onewho sits down is equivalent to half of the prayer of one who stands.” Translation Not Available

It wasnarrated from ‘Imran bin Husain that he asked the Messenger ofAllah (PBUH) about a man who prays sitting down. He said, “Whoeverperforms prayer standing up, that is better. Whoever performs prayersitting down will have half the reward of one who prays standing. حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَوَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ لَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مَرَضَهُ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ - وَقَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ لَمَّا ثَقُلَ - جَاءَ بِلاَلٌ يُؤْذِنُهُ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ " مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ " . قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَجُلٌ أَسِيفٌ - تَعْنِي رَقِيقٌ - وَمَتَى مَا يَقُومُ مُقَامَكَ يَبْكِي فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ عُمَرَ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ . فَقَالَ " مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرِ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ فَإِنَّكُنَّ صَوَاحِبَاتُ يُوسُفَ " . قَالَتْ فَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَوَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ خِفَّةً فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ يُهَادَى بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ وَرِجْلاَهُ تَخُطَّانِ فِي الأَرْضِ فَلَمَّا أَحَسَّ بِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ذَهَبَ لِيَتَأَخَّرَ فَأَوْمَى إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَنْ مَكَانَكَ . قَالَ فَجَاءَ حَتَّى أَجْلَسَاهُ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَأْتَمُّ بِالنَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَالنَّاسُ يَأْتَمُّونَ بِأَبِي بَكْرٍ .
It wasnarrated that ‘Aishah said: “When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)fell ill with the sickness that would be his last” – (One of thenarrators) Abu Mu’awiyah said: “When he was overcome by sickness”–“Bilal came to tell him that it was time for prayer. He said,‘TellAbu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.’ We said: ‘OMessenger ofAllah! Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man, and when hetakes your placehe will weep and not be able to do it. Why do younot tell ‘Umar tolead the people in prayer?’ He said: ‘TellAbu Bakr to lead the peoplein prayer; you are (like) the femalecompanions of Yusuf.’” She said:“So we sent word to Abu Bakr,and he led the people in prayer. Thenthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH)began to feel a little better, so he cameout to the prayer, supportedby two men with his feet making linesalong the ground. When Abu Bakrrealized that he was there, he wantedto step back, but the Prophet(PBUH) gestured to him to stay where hewas. Then (the two men)brought him to sit beside Abu Bakr, and AbuBakr was following thelead of the Prophet (PBUH) and the people werefollowing Abu Bakr.” Translation Not Available

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ فَوَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ خِفَّةً فَخَرَجَ وَإِذَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَؤُمُّ النَّاسَ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ اسْتَأْخَرَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَىْ كَمَا أَنْتَ فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ حِذَاءَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِصَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَالنَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ بِصَلاَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ .
It wasnarrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) toldAbu Bakr to lead the people in prayer when he was sick, and Abu Bakrused to lead them in prayer. Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) beganto feel a little better, so he came out, and saw Abu Bakr leading thepeople in prayer. When Abu Bakr saw him, he stepped back, but theMessenger of Allah (PBUH) gestured to him to stay where he was. Thenthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sat beside Abu Bakr. حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، مِنْ كِتَابِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ نُبَيْطٍ أَنْبَأَنَا عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ نُبَيْطِ بْنِ شَرِيطٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ أُغْمِيَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فِي مَرَضِهِ ثُمَّ أَفَاقَ فَقَالَ " أَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ " . قَالُوا نَعَمْ . قَالَ " مُرُوا بِلاَلاً فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ وَمُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ - أَوْ لِلنَّاسِ - " . ثُمَّ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَفَاقَ فَقَالَ " أَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ " . قَالُوا نَعَمْ . قَالَ " مُرُوا بِلاَلاً فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ وَمُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ " . ثُمَّ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَفَاقَ فَقَالَ " أَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ " . قَالُوا نَعَمْ . قَالَ " مُرُوا بِلاَلاً فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ وَمُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ " . فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِنَّ أَبِي رَجُلٌ أَسِيفٌ فَإِذَا قَامَ ذَلِكَ الْمُقَامَ يَبْكِي لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ غَيْرَهُ . ثُمَّ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَفَاقَ فَقَالَ " مُرُوا بِلاَلاً فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ وَمُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ فَإِنَّكُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ أَوْ صَوَاحِبَاتُ يُوسُفَ " . قَالَ فَأُمِرَ بِلاَلٌ فَأَذَّنَ وَأُمِرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَجَدَ خِفَّةً فَقَالَ " انْظُرُوا لِي مَنْ أَتَّكِئُ عَلَيْهِ " . فَجَاءَتْ بَرِيرَةُ وَرَجُلٌ آخَرُ فَاتَّكَأَ عَلَيْهِمَا فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ذَهَبَ لِيَنْكُصَ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اثْبُتْ مَكَانَكَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَتَّى قَضَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ صَلاَتَهُ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قُبِضَ . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لَمْ يُحَدِّثْ بِهِ غَيْرُ نَصْرِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ .
It wasnarrated that Salim bin ‘Ubaid said: “The Messenger of Allah(PBUH) fainted when he was sick, then he woke up and said: ‘Has thetime for prayer come?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Tell Bilalto callthe Adhan, and tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.’Then hefainted, then he woke up and said: ‘Has the time for prayercome?’They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Tell Bilal to call theAdhan, and tell AbuBakr to lead the people in prayer.’ Then hefainted, then he woke upand said: ‘Has the time for prayer come?’They said: ‘Yes.’ He said:‘Tell Bilal to call the Adhan, andtell Abu Bakr to lead the people inprayer.’ ‘Aishah said: ‘Myfather is a tender-hearted man, and if hestands in that place hewill weep and will not be able to do it. Ifyou told someone else todo it (that would be better).’ Then hefainted, then woke up andsaid: ‘Tell Bilal to call the Adhan, andtell Abu Bakr to lead thepeople in prayer. You are (like) the femalecompanions of Yusuf.’So Bilal was told to call the Adhan and he didso, and Abu Bakr wastold to lead the people in prayer, and he did so. Then the Messengerof Allah (PBUH) felt a little better, and he said:‘Find me someoneI can lean on.’ Barirah and another man came, and heleaned onthem. When Abu Bakr saw him, he started to step back, but(theProphet (PBUH)) gestured him to stay where he was. Then theMessengerof Allah (PBUH) came and sat beside Abu Bakr, until Abu Bakrfinishedpraying.
