حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تُمَيْلَةَ، عَنْ فُلَيْحِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الزُّرَقِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِلَى الْعِيدِ رَجَعَ فِي غَيْرِ الطَّرِيقِ الَّذِي أَخَذَ فِيهِ .

It wasnarrated from ‘Amir that Qais bin Sa’d said: “There is nothingthat happened during the time of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) exceptthat I have seen it, except for one thing, which is that Taqlis wasperformed for the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) on the Day of Fitr. حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَغْدُو إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فِي يَوْمِ الْعِيدِ وَالْعَنَزَةُ تُحْمَلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَإِذَا بَلَغَ الْمُصَلَّى نُصِبَتْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَيُصَلِّي إِلَيْهَا وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْمُصَلَّى كَانَ فَضَاءً لَيْسَ فِيهِ شَىْءٌ يُسْتَتَرُ بِهِ .
It wasnarrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) usedtoset out for the praying place in the morning of the day of ‘Eid,and a small spear would be carried before him. When he reached thepraying place, it would be set up in front of him, then he would prayfacing it, and that was because the praying place was an open spaceinwhich there was nothing that could serve as a Sutrah. It wasnarrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “When the Prophet (PBUH) prayedonthe day of ‘Eid or on another occasion, a small spear was set up infront of him, and he prayed facing it, and the people were behindhim.” Nafi` said: It is from here that the leaders have taken this practice.
